Product Description:
The RZW02.1-045-025 braking resistor is manufactured by Bosch Rexroth Indramat as part of the RZW Braking Resistors series. It is an energy-dissipation component that converts excess kinetic energy from servo drives into heat so the DC-bus voltage stays within safe limits during emergency stops or high-inertia braking events. This model is design 1 in line 2 of the product group and is intended for cabinet mounting inside controlled industrial environments.
The resistor can absorb up to 45 kW of regenerated power, a capacity matched to its nominal resistance of 7.3 Ω, so drive controllers can calculate braking current without external scaling. With a depth of 800 mm, the unit fits deep panel sections, while an IP20 housing blocks accidental contact yet allows free convection. Power enters through line terminals sized for conductors up to 25 mm²; a separate protective conductor of at least 10 mm² must be wired to the dedicated stud. The operating factor is a 25% duty cycle, meaning the resistor may conduct for 30 seconds and then remain off for 90 seconds to remain within its thermal limits. The minimum connectable drive resistance is 6 Ω, so multiple drives can share the element provided their combined equivalent resistance does not fall below this limit.
The overall height is 270 mm, and the width is 490 mm, creating a front surface that reaches no more than 80 °C when loaded according to the stated duty cycle. Internally, a thermal time constant of 100 s indicates the period required for the winding temperature to complete 63% of its rise toward the final temperature, which aligns with the specified on-and-off sequence. The assembly weighs 33 kg, so panel supports must carry this static load. Terminals marked “PE” provide the required protective earth connection. The enclosure clearances accommodate the conductor cross section and maintain appropriate creepage distances.
