The RZW02.1-037-015 braking resistor is manufactured by Bosch Rexroth Indramat as part of the RZW Braking Resistors series. Installed on the DC link of a servo drive or variable-frequency inverter, it converts regenerated kinetic energy into heat during motor deceleration. This process prevents the intermediate-circuit voltage from rising above safe operating limits. The resistor supports controlled stops and load reversals in automated machinery while protecting the connected power electronics from excessive voltage.
The resistor provides a peak braking capacity of 37 kW and a continuous dissipation rating of 3.3 kW. Its 15% SD operating factor applies to a 120-second load cycle, permitting 18 seconds of energy absorption followed by 102 seconds of cooling. A thermal time constant of 100 s reflects the rate at which the resistor heats and cools during repeated braking cycles. The nominal resistance is 8.0 Ω, which determines the brake current produced at a given DC-bus voltage. Additional resistor elements may be connected where permitted, provided that the resulting resistance does not fall below 7 Ω. The drive control must activate the braking circuit only when the DC-bus voltage reaches the applicable switching threshold.
The housing measures 600 mm deep, 490 mm wide, and 270 mm high, while the complete assembly weighs 22 kg. Its steel casing withstands the repeated thermal expansion and contraction caused by braking operation. The enclosure has an IP20 rating, so the resistor must be installed inside a ventilated cabinet that prevents contact with live components. Power conductors attach to connection lugs that accept 16 mm² cable, and the dedicated grounding terminal accepts a 10 mm² protective conductor. Adequate clearance around the casing is necessary so rising air can remove heat without obstruction.
