Product Description:
The RZW02.1-030-040 braking resistor is built by Bosch Rexroth Indramat for the RZW Braking Resistors series. Installed across the DC link of a drive controller, it converts regenerated motor energy into heat so that connected axes can decelerate without causing an overvoltage condition. The fixed resistive load helps keep servo and inverter systems within their allowable electrical limits during dynamic stopping, rapid deceleration, or load reversals in automated machinery.
The unit has a rated braking capacity of 30 kW, while its continuous thermal load is 27 kW. Its fixed resistance of 10 Ω controls the braking current that flows at a given DC-bus voltage. Operation follows a 120-second duty cycle in which the resistor may accept energy for up to 48 seconds before remaining inactive for at least 72 seconds. These intervals allow heat to dissipate while helping the external surface remain below its 80 °C temperature limit. The minimum connectable resistance is 8.75 Ω, which prevents excessive current if multiple resistors are connected to the same DC link. The operating cycle must be observed to prevent the resistor element and surrounding components from exceeding their allowable temperatures.
A protective plate and fin arrangement provide natural convection paths inside an IP20 metal enclosure. The housing measures 800 mm deep, 490 mm wide, and 270 mm high, providing sufficient surface area for heat transfer while protecting against accidental contact with internal parts. The unit has a total mass of 33 kg and can be mounted in a suitable cabinet without an external support frame. Wiring connects to Line 2 terminals that accept a 16 mm² conductor, while the protective earth conductor must have a cross-sectional area of at least 10 mm². The resistor has design code 1 and an operating factor of 40% SD. Stored heat leaves the resistor element over a thermal time constant of 100 seconds, so adequate airflow and the required inactive period must be maintained between braking intervals.
