Product Description:
The RZW02.1-030-025 braking resistor is manufactured by Bosch Rexroth Indramat within the RZW Braking Resistors series. It connects to compatible drive controllers and absorbs surplus regenerative energy produced during rapid motor deceleration. The resistor converts electrical energy into heat, protecting DC-link components from excessive voltage in industrial automation axes and spindle systems. The unit belongs to design 1 and line 2 of the series and operates as an external thermal load for the drive’s braking chopper.
The resistor has a continuous power rating of 30 kW and a short-term power rating of 27 kW for acceleration and braking cycles. Its operating factor is limited to 25% SD, allowing the element to conduct for one-quarter of each 120-second load cycle. A maximum operating period of 30 seconds must be followed by an off-time of 90 seconds so the resistor can release accumulated heat through natural convection. The fixed resistance is 10 Ω, making the unit compatible with standard drive chopper outputs. Upstream modules can use resistance values as low as 8.75 Ω when suitable devices are connected in parallel. Peak power pulses pass through the internal wire grid, while the IP20 housing helps prevent accidental contact and permits cooling air to move through the vented sides.
The resistor has a peak-to-continuous power ratio of 3.2, allowing the drive to dissipate brief power surges through the assembly. Its thermal response has a time constant of 100 seconds, which indicates how quickly the resistor temperature changes as power is applied or removed. The casing temperature can reach 80 °C under the highest permitted duty, so the installation must maintain adequate clearance from heat-sensitive components and wiring. Supply conductors with cross-sectional areas up to 16 mm² connect through screw terminals. The enclosure measures 490 mm wide, 600 mm deep, and 270 mm high, and these dimensions must be considered when arranging cabinet space and cooling clearances. The module weighs 22 kg and tolerates relative humidity up to 90 percent during permitted operation.
