The RZW02.1-030-015 is a braking resistor module manufactured by Bosch Rexroth Indramat for the RZW Braking Resistors series. It dissipates regenerated energy from servo drives, preventing DC-bus overvoltage during rapid deceleration or directional changes in automated machinery. The module is supplied in Design 1, Line 2 format and measures 400 mm deep, 490 mm wide, and 270 mm high, allowing its cabinet location and required clearances to be planned accurately.
The resistor has a continuous power capability of 30 kW, allowing it to dissipate substantial regenerated energy without exceeding its rated temperature rise. The element has a resistance of 9.5 Ω; when connected to the DC bus, this value determines the braking current that flows at a given voltage. Intermittent operation follows a 15% SD operating factor, meaning the device may conduct for 18 seconds within a 120-second load cycle before it must cool. Its 100-second thermal time constant indicates how quickly the resistor temperature responds to changes in power dissipation, so cabinet ventilation must prevent cumulative heating during repeated cycles. The housing has an IP20 protection rating, which prevents finger contact with hazardous internal parts but requires installation inside an enclosure protected from liquid spray.
During the idle portion following an active braking period, the module requires a 102-second switch-off interval so its internal conductors can cool before the next load cycle. Under maximum duty, the aluminum fins can reach a surface temperature of 80 °C, so nearby wiring insulation and installation clearances must accommodate this heat level. Drive controllers connected through chopper circuits must not apply a resistance below the 8.75 Ω minimum resistance, as a lower value could cause the permissible current to be exceeded. The assembly has a mass of 13 kg, reducing the load on cabinet mounting rails while providing sufficient thermal mass for repetitive deceleration cycles.
