Product Description:
The RZW02.1-022-040 is a panel-mounted braking resistor produced by Bosch Rexroth Indramat as part of the RZW Braking Resistors series. Connected to the DC link of a servo or inverter drive, it converts excess kinetic energy into heat whenever a motor decelerates, helping to keep the bus voltage within safe limits and prevent overvoltage shutdowns. The assembly is enclosed in a ventilated sheet steel frame that simplifies placement inside electrical cabinets used in automated conveyor, packaging, and machine-tool installations.
The resistor can absorb up to 22 kW of braking power, which represents the maximum power it can convert into heat during permitted duty cycles. Its fixed resistance of 13 Ω determines the instantaneous current drawn from the DC link at a given voltage and must be matched to the drive’s chopper module. An enclosure rating of IP20 protects against accidental finger contact while allowing convective airflow over the fins. The unit requires 600 mm of cabinet depth because all terminals and heat-dissipating surfaces remain within that footprint. Operation is limited to a 40% duty cycle, meaning the unit may conduct for less than half of each repeating cycle while remaining within its thermal limits.
The resistor has a thermal time constant of 100 s, indicating how quickly the element approaches its steady-state temperature after power is applied. The standard load cycle lasts 120 s; during this interval, the resistor may remain energized for a maximum of 48 s and must cool for the remainder of the cycle to keep the casing below 80 °C. When multiple units are connected in parallel, the minimum connectable resistance is 11.6 Ω to protect the chopper transistor from overcurrent. The unit measures 270 mm high and 490 mm wide, has a mass of 22 kg, and uses M10 terminal threads that accept ring lugs for low-impedance wiring.
