The RZW02.1-018-025 braking resistor is produced by Bosch Rexroth Indramat for the RZW Braking Resistors series. Integrated into an inverter’s DC link, the device absorbs surplus regenerative energy and dissipates it as heat, keeping the bus voltage within the permissible range during emergency stops or controlled deceleration. This external load element can shorten braking times and help prevent drive overvoltage faults in conveyors, packaging machines, and other high-inertia motion axes. It also provides a dedicated path for energy returned by the motor when a driven load slows down rapidly.
The resistor can continuously absorb up to 18.5 kW during its rated duty period. A fixed resistance of 18 Ω establishes the braking current that flows when the unit is connected to the specified DC voltage. The 25% SD duty cycle corresponds to a 30-second operating period followed by a 90-second resting period within a 120-second load cycle, allowing the element to cool during intermittent service. A thermal time constant of 100 s indicates how quickly the element’s temperature responds to changing loads and assists with the placement of cooling clearances. The housing has an IP20 protection rating, which prevents accidental contact with live parts when the module is installed inside a ventilated control cabinet. Adequate airflow around the enclosure helps remove the heat produced while regenerative energy is being dissipated.
The enclosure measures 400 mm deep, 270 mm high, and 490 mm wide, allowing sufficient space to be reserved on a cabinet backplane or sidewall. With a mass of 13 kg, the assembly can be mounted securely without placing excessive load on the supporting panel. An M10 terminal thread accommodates a secure electrical connection, while a 6 mm² line cross-section supports attachment to the associated bus bar or cable. The mounting location should provide suitable clearance for wiring, terminal access, and natural heat dissipation. Proper separation from heat-sensitive control components reduces their exposure to the elevated temperatures produced during braking. The resistor can be connected to a compatible Indramat drive controller through appropriately rated conductors and protective hardware.
