Product Description:
The RZW02.1-015-040 is a panel-mounted braking resistor manufactured by Bosch Rexroth Indramat for drives in the RZW Braking Resistors series. It converts the kinetic energy returned by a decelerating servo system into heat so the connected inverter can regulate motor speed without causing overvoltage events in the DC link of industrial automation cells. The design 1 module belongs to line 2 of the product family and connects to drives that support a minimum external resistance of 17.5 Ω.
With a continuous dissipation capability of 15 kW, the unit can safely absorb the regenerative power typical of medium-inertia axes. Its fixed resistance of 18 Ω sets the current that will flow at a given DC bus voltage, allowing predictable thermal loading. The enclosure meets the IP20 protection class, guarding against finger contact while allowing unobstructed airflow for convection cooling. An operating factor of 40% SD pairs with a load cycle of 120 seconds, meaning the resistor may conduct for up to 48 seconds before a required 72-second off period. This operating limit corresponds to a thermal time constant of 100 seconds, which is the time required for the element to reach approximately 63% of its final temperature.
The resistor measures 490 mm wide, 270 mm high, and 400 mm deep, allowing panel integration alongside power electronics. Its mass of 13 kg limits the structural load placed on the cabinet panel. During operation, the resistor surface may reach 80 °C, so the installation spacing and cable selection must accommodate this temperature. The maximum permitted relative humidity is 90% without condensation, which helps protect the mica-insulated windings from moisture-related leakage. The aluminum fin package distributes generated heat across the resistor element during each permitted load cycle.
