Classified as type B3, it is wired across the DC link of a drive controller and absorbs regenerative energy that appears when a motor decelerates or an axis reverses. Converting that energy into heat prevents overvoltage trips and allows controlled braking cycles in conveyors, pick-and-place arms, and packaging lines used throughout industrial automation.
The resistor supports a 60% duty cycle (ED), meaning it may conduct for more than half of each thermal cycle. A base cycle time of 120 s is used to calculate the permissible operating and cooling intervals. When operated within this intermittent profile, the element has a resistance of 22 Ω, which is above the drive chopper’s minimum connectable resistance of 20 Ω.
