The RZW02.1-011-040 braking resistor is manufactured by Bosch Rexroth Indramat and belongs to the RZW Braking Resistors series. It is installed on the DC link of converters so that kinetic energy released during rapid motor deceleration is dissipated as heat instead of raising the bus voltage. By providing this energy sink, the module helps protect drive electronics and supports stable operation when axes stop, reverse, or decelerate repeatedly. This function also helps reduce overvoltage trips during braking events in servo and inverter applications.
The resistor’s continuous power absorption is rated at 11 kW, so it can convert that amount of electrical energy into heat during permitted duty cycles. Its resistance value of 22 Ω sets the current that flows for a given DC-bus voltage and influences heating rates. A permissible operating factor of 40% SD limits average loading to intermittent service so the element can cool between braking events. When short peaks occur, the device can momentarily handle power that is 2.2 times higher than its continuous rating, giving extra headroom during abrupt stops. An enclosure protection class of IP20 allows mounting inside a ventilated cabinet, where accidental contact with live parts must still be prevented.
The housing spans 490 mm in width and 400 mm in depth, so panel space can be planned accurately. With a mass of 13 kg, the unit can be fastened to a backplate without additional support brackets.
