Product Description:
The RZW02.1-007-025 braking resistor is produced by Bosch Rexroth Indramat for the RZW Braking Resistors series. In an automation axis, it converts excess kinetic energy from a servo drive into heat, preventing DC-bus overvoltage during rapid deceleration or load back-driving. The unit acts as a protective energy sink that keeps inverter components within their voltage limits during dynamic duty cycles. This function is especially important when a motor returns energy to the drive faster than the connected system can consume it.
The resistor has a continuous power rating of 7.5 kW, while its admissible short-term power rating is 6.5 kW. An operating factor of 25% SD sets the permissible thermal duty cycle, meaning the device may be energized for one quarter of an operating sequence without exceeding its surface temperature limits. The fixed resistance of 33 Ω provides predictable current draw from a 600 V DC bus. Loads below the stated minimum resistance of 30 Ω must not be connected because they could result in excessive current. The assembly has an IP20 protection rating, so it must be installed inside a ventilated control cabinet that prevents contact with exposed electrical parts. The housing measures 490 mm wide, 300 mm deep, and 270 mm high, allowing placement beside standard drive stacks.
The thermal time constant is 100 s, indicating how quickly the resistor responds to a change in thermal load. Individual conduction intervals must remain within 30 s to prevent excessive heat accumulation during braking. Each interval must be followed by a cooling period of at least 90 s, supporting the permitted operating cycle. An M10 mounting thread provides a secure attachment point for installation on a back panel or suitable support surface. The 2.5 mm² line cross-section accommodates the required electrical connection and aligns with IEC wiring practices for the applicable current density. The unit uses Design 1 and belongs to Line 2 of the product series. With a mass of 9.5 kg, it places a moderate mechanical load on the enclosure and its mounting structure.
