Product Description:
The RZW02.1-005-006 braking resistor is built by Bosch Rexroth Indramat for the RZW Braking Resistors series. Integrated into regenerative drive systems, the unit converts surplus kinetic energy into heat so the connected inverter and motor can decelerate without causing an overvoltage condition. Its function is purely dissipative, making the resistor a passive protective component for power electronics during rapid stops or frequent braking cycles in industrial automation lines. The generated heat must be released through adequate cabinet ventilation and suitable spacing around the resistor.
The resistor can absorb up to 5.5 kW of braking power, which is the maximum thermal load it may handle during each energized period. Its resistance is 47 Ω, establishing the current that flows at a given DC-bus voltage and affecting instantaneous power dissipation. Continuous operation is limited by an operating factor of 6% SD, meaning the resistor should be active for only a small portion of each thermal cycle. This duty cycle permits an on-time of 7.2 s, followed by an off-time of 112.8 seconds that allows the internal temperature to decrease before the next braking event. The enclosure has an IP20 protection rating, which prevents accidental finger contact but requires installation inside a ventilated cabinet.
The resistor has a thermal time constant of 300 s, which supports thermal calculations for applications with repetitive motion and braking. It weighs 2.3 kg and measures 486 mm wide, 120 mm high, and 92 mm deep, providing a flat profile for panel installation. The minimum resistance that may be connected to the drive output is 30 Ω, so installations using parallel resistor modules must remain above this lower limit. Power connections accept wiring with a cross-sectional area of up to 2.5 mm², and the conductors are secured under an M6 terminal screw. The device uses Design 1, belongs to Line 2 of the product group, and has an A2 resistor type.
