Product Description:
The RZW02.1-003-060 braking resistor is produced by Bosch Rexroth Indramat for servo and inverter systems within the RZW Braking Resistors series. In an automation line, it dissipates regenerative energy returned by decelerating motors, protecting the drive electronics and keeping the DC-bus voltage within safe limits. The resistor converts excess electrical energy into heat when a connected motor slows down or stops, reducing the risk of an overvoltage fault in the drive system.
The resistor has a resistance of 68 Ω, which determines the current drawn from the drive during braking. Continuous dissipation reaches 3 kW, while short regenerative loading is rated at 2.7 kW. The protection class is IP20, so the unit must be installed inside a cabinet that prevents accidental contact with its internal components. Thermal behavior is characterized by a 300 s time constant, meaning the housing temperature changes gradually during repeated braking cycles. Two power terminals accept a 2.5 mm² cable, and the minimum connectable resistance is 30 Ω. A maximum on-time of 72 s and an off-time of 48 s help keep the resistor elements below the permitted surface temperature. Threaded M6 inserts support secure panel attachment. A depth of 92 mm and a height of 120 mm allow the resistor to fit inside compact enclosures while maintaining space around the housing for heat dissipation.
An operating factor of 60% SD corresponds to the specified on-time and off-time cycle, allowing the resistor to conduct for more than half of each complete duty cycle without exceeding its operating limits. During operation, the external surface temperature may reach 80 °C, so adjacent wiring and temperature-sensitive components require appropriate clearance. The aluminum housing spans 486 mm across the mounting flange, providing an extended surface area for heat transfer. The unit weighs 2.3 kg, which limits the load placed on the cabinet panel. It is supplied in a design 1 configuration, and its two connection points follow the line 2 classification with standard busbar spacing.
