Product Description:
The RZW02.1-003-040 braking resistor is produced by Bosch Rexroth Indramat for the RZW Braking Resistors series. In drive systems, it dissipates surplus DC-bus energy generated during rapid motor deceleration, helping the converter remain within its voltage limits and protecting connected components. The unit belongs to design code 1 on line 2 of the product family, and its 389 mm width supports installation inside a control enclosure without occupying excessive panel space.
The resistor element has a nominal resistance of 68 Ω, while the connected braking-resistor arrangement may have a resistance as low as 30 Ω when greater thermal capacity is needed. During braking events, the unit can absorb up to 2.7 kW, while its continuous power rating is 3 kW. The operating factor is limited to 40% SD, so the resistor must cool during the remaining portion of the duty cycle to prevent excessive heat accumulation. A thermal time constant of 300 seconds indicates how quickly the aluminum housing approaches its equilibrium temperature under load. The housing measures 87 mm high and 75 mm deep. Electrical connections use threaded M4 studs that accommodate conductors with a cross-sectional area of 2.5 mm², providing secure connections to the inverter’s braking chopper circuit.
The resistor can operate at temperatures from 0 °C to 40 °C and at a maximum relative humidity of 90% noncondensing. Its enclosure has an IP20 protection rating, so the unit requires cabinet installation to reduce accidental contact and exposure to debris. During transportation or storage, it tolerates temperatures from -25 °C to 70 °C without degradation. The resistor has a mass of 1.2 kg, which reduces the load placed on the mounting surface. Its compact housing can be secured to a suitable base plate within the enclosure, while adequate clearance around the unit allows heat to dissipate during braking cycles.
