Product Description:
The RZW02.1-001-006 braking resistor is produced by Bosch Rexroth Indramat and belongs to the RZW Braking Resistors series. As an energy dissipation component, it converts surplus regenerative power from a servo drive into heat so the DC-bus voltage remains within safe limits during deceleration events. The unit is used in industrial automation axes that require rapid braking without feeding power back to the mains, protecting both the drive electronics and the upstream supply.
The resistor operates on a 120 s duty cycle. It may conduct for a maximum of 7.2 s, followed by 112.8 s of cooling, yielding an overall operating factor of 6% SD. Within that window, the element can absorb up to 1.5 kW of instantaneous power, which is suitable for inverter outputs in the 380–700 V DC range. The fixed resistance of 120 Ω determines the braking current that flows at a given bus voltage and keeps heat dissipation below the thermal limit associated with the 300 s time constant. Observing these limits helps prevent premature aging of the ceramic core and its encapsulation.
The housing measures 285 mm in width, 66 mm in depth, and 77 mm in height, giving it a flat profile for panel installation beside the drive. Mounting is provided through an M4 threaded channel on the rear. The unit weighs 0.8 kg, so it can be fastened to light sheet-metal brackets without placing excessive stress on the cabinet. Its IP20 rating provides protection against contact with hazardous internal parts, but the resistor requires enclosure mounting where dust or splashing water may be present. When drive combinations require lower impedance, several resistors can be wired in parallel as long as the total resistance does not fall below 30 Ω. The device is cataloged as Design 1 in Line 2 of the product group.
