The RZW01.1-110-NNN braking resistor is manufactured by Bosch Rexroth Indramat for the RZW Braking Resistors series. It connects to servo drives and frequency inverters to dissipate surplus kinetic energy as heat during deceleration cycles, preventing DC-link overvoltage and protecting the power electronics in automated machinery. The mounting pattern uses a 22.5 mm grid, and 100 mm of clearance must be left above the housing to provide adequate airflow. The assembly weighs 15 kg and can be installed in a suitable cabinet without additional mounting brackets.
This model is rated for 110 kW of pulse braking power, allowing it to handle large inertia loads without triggering drive faults. Its cold resistance is 2.5 Ω, so the initial braking current depends on the DC-bus voltage and this resistance value. The permissible peak load may be applied for 1 s, providing a brief operating window that can be coordinated with the drive’s deceleration parameters. Heat leaves the aluminum profile through natural convection. The unit’s thermal mass provides a 185 s thermal time constant, so its temperature rises gradually during intermittent operation. During operation, the resistor surface may reach 100 °C, so contact with the housing must be prevented while the unit is energized or cooling. The ambient air temperature must remain between 0 °C and 40 °C to keep the internal insulation within its operating limits. The resistor can operate at up to 90 % relative humidity when condensation is not present. Storage at temperatures as low as −25 °C is permitted while power is disconnected, and the maximum storage temperature is +70 °C. The unit has design code 1 and line code 1, indicating the applicable mechanical revision and electrical interface for this model.
