Product Description:
The RZW01.1-030-NNN braking resistor is manufactured by Bosch Rexroth Indramat and belongs to the RZW Braking Resistors series. In a drive system, it converts regenerative energy from decelerating servo axes into heat, preventing overvoltage in connected power supply modules and allowing controlled motor braking without feeding energy back to the mains. The device is housed in an aluminum enclosure that can be installed next to Rexroth inverters or mounted inside a cabinet, providing a dedicated dissipative load for dynamic duty cycles.
The resistor is rated for a continuous absorption capacity of 30 kW, so drive controllers can redirect high peak energies during rapid stops without exceeding its thermal limits. Its fixed resistance of 8.8 Ω must match the chopper transistor in the drive so current remains within the intended range at a given DC-bus voltage. A thermal time constant of 185 s indicates how quickly the element approaches its final temperature after a power step, which helps establish safe duty intervals for repetitive braking events. Heat is transferred to the surrounding air through a finned enclosure made of aluminum, while the internal heavy-duty metal-alloy strip keeps the resistive value stable across wide temperature changes.
The mechanical layout follows a construction grid of 22.5 mm, so the unit fits neatly with modular cabinet components and requires the recommended top clearance for airflow. Protective grounding requires a conductor cross-section of 10 mm² Cu to provide a reliable fault path during operation. The housing may reach 100 °C under full load, and the unit is suitable for ambient conditions up to 90% relative humidity without condensation. With a mass of 4.2 kg, the resistor can be mounted without heavy support hardware and still offers enough thermal inertia for short, high-energy braking pulses.
