Product Description:
Bosch Rexroth Indramat’s RM6SM-16DP-F is a decentralized I/O expansion block from the RM PROFIBUS Modules series. The unit serves as a network node that connects sensor and actuator wiring on machinery to a central motion controller or PLC. Module-level power distribution and addressable bus communication reduce panel cabling and allow digital connection points to be mounted directly on moving tooling or conveyor frames. This arrangement supports distributed control architectures in industrial automation cells where long individual cable runs would otherwise be necessary.
The module exchanges process data over the PROFIBUS DP fieldbus, following the timing and diagnostic conventions used by compatible master stations. Bus wiring uses a round connector with 12 pins for the shield, power tap, and differential signal pairs. Each bus plug can be indexed in four 90° positions, allowing the header to align with the incoming trunk cable without creating tight bends. The logic electronics operate from 24 V DC, which separates the protocol transceiver from higher-current load feeds and helps maintain low quiescent power consumption. An IP65 enclosure rating protects the housing against dust ingress and water jets, permitting direct mounting in washdown areas without an additional cabinet.
System power enters through an M18 circular connector positioned beside the bus port. Its six power pins distribute the incoming supply to downstream I/O slices while providing return paths for sensing currents. The output stages draw from the shared supply rail used for coils and indicator LEDs, eliminating the need for a secondary source. Compliance with the emission standard EN 61000-6-4 indicates that conducted and radiated emissions remain within the limits established for industrial environments. Compliance with the immunity standard DIN EN 61131-2 supports operation in the presence of electromagnetic disturbances when the module is installed according to the applicable grounding requirements.
