The R-IB IL RS485/422-PRO-PAC is a communication interface module produced by Bosch Rexroth Indramat within the R-IB Interface Modules series. It installs on an Inline rail and serves as a serial communication bridge in compact automation systems. It converts the system’s local bus data stream to RS-485 half-duplex or RS-422 full-duplex links, allowing controllers to exchange process values with serial field devices in orderly automation networks.

Measuring just 24.4 × 135 × 71.5 mm, the module occupies one standard terminal width while leaving room in compact cabinets for adjacent modules. The Inline local bus moves status and control words at a rate of 500 kBaud, and the embedded protocol driver limits the attached serial side to a maximum of 38.4 kBaud. This prevents timing conflicts between high-speed internal traffic and legacy instruments. System power is supplied at 24 V DC, and the module internally converts that input to a 7.5 V logic rail that draws 170 mA from the supply. A data window shown as 96 bits of process data maps the remote serial payload directly into the controller’s cyclic image. The transceiver offers 50 mV hysteresis to reject line noise, uses a 120 Ω termination resistor for impedance matching, and tolerates differential input swings up to ±5.7 V while delivering at least ±2 V into 100 kΩ loads on the outgoing side.

A 4 kByte receive buffer absorbs burst traffic from external devices, and a 1 kByte transmit queue smooths outbound messaging when serial polling is uneven. During fault conditions, the driver can source or sink up to ±80 mA without permanent damage, allowing short-circuit diagnostics before the circuit breaker trips. The housing is rated IP20, so the unit must be installed in an enclosed panel but does not require additional gasketing for typical machine rooms. These buffer capacities help reduce overruns when the serial side delivers data in bursts, and the transmit queue helps keep controller exchanges orderly.
