Product Description:
The PSI63C0.168-W1 is a medium-frequency inverter produced by Bosch Rexroth Indramat within the PSI Frequency Inverters series. Designed for welding and heating installations that depend on controlled medium-frequency energy, the unit converts three-phase mains power into a regulated output for transformers and electrodes. By integrating power electronics, process I/O, and a dedicated CPU, it provides closed-loop control of current and timing functions required in automated production cells.
A TriCore processor coordinates parameter handling, monitoring, and user programs with up to 256 steps, while discrete 24 V inputs and outputs interface with external sensors and actuators. The inverter operates on a three-phase supply of 400 – 480 VAC and draws a nominal mains current of 110 A. Internally, pulse patterns are switched at 1 kHz to create a stable medium-frequency waveform. For high-duty welding guns, it can deliver a maximum primary current of 800 A, which the transformer reflects into a secondary-side peak of 36 kA. Up to 32 electrodes can be driven under a single control cycle, and a 24 V timer circuit ensures synchronous firing. The enclosure has an IP20 rating, providing basic finger-safe shielding during cabinet installation.
The power stage is water-cooled and requires a minimum flow of 4 l/min to remove heat from the IGBT modules. Cooling water may enter at temperatures up to 30 °C and pressures as high as 10 bar, and under the stated flow rate the pressure drop is limited to 0.1 bar at 4 l/min. These hydraulic limits help keep semiconductor junction temperatures within a safe operating range while allowing cabinet air to remain near ambient temperature. The unit has a mass of 25 kg, and the water routing allows the inverter to be mounted close to heat-sensitive control electronics without raising enclosure temperatures.
