It converts a three-phase utility supply into a regulated medium-frequency output for induction heating coils, surface hardening systems, and other high-power process loads in automated lines. This type of output supports fast thermal response during repetitive production cycles where the load must heat quickly and repeatedly without relying on a conventional line-frequency transformer.

The inverter accepts a three-phase mains window of 400 – 480 VAC and modulates this at a carrier of 1 kHz to form the required secondary waveform. During continuous duty, the power channel carries 110 A, while cabinet dissipation is limited to 69 W, which helps determine enclosure airflow and heat removal requirements inside the panel. The IP54 cabinet rating keeps dust and splashing liquids away from the power electronics, while control terminals remain behind an internal IP20 barrier for wiring safety. Air-cooled construction removes heat from the semiconductor stack, and a recessed mounting style lets the drive sit flush with panel surfaces to conserve floor depth. Metal-oxide varistors handle overvoltage events, integrated temperature monitoring supervises the heat sinks, and a DeviceNet timer coordinates start, dwell, and stop sequences with neighboring PLC logic.

Transient demands are handled by a peak output of 400 A, while the transformer secondary can momentarily deliver 20 kA to the workpiece for short heating cycles. When cooling air reaches its design limit, the unit can shed up to 360 W of heat, and sensors initiate derating before internal limits are exceeded at 55 °C ambient. Three-phase topology maintains input symmetry across the mains, and the MOV devices supplement the thermal watchdog to prevent fault energy from reaching sensitive circuits. The air path is isolated from the control boards, allowing fan service without disturbing low-voltage sections, and all power and signal connections are front-loaded to suit recessed installations and simplify access from the cabinet front.
