The PSI6100.610-W1 medium-frequency inverter is produced by Bosch Rexroth Indramat within the PSI Frequency Inverters series. It converts three-phase mains power into a regulated medium-frequency output required by induction heating generators, hardening equipment, and other industrial loads that need precise power control. By integrating the inverter into an automation cell, machine builders can adjust energy delivery electronically rather than through mechanical tap changers, reducing response times and allowing the control system to react quickly to process demands.
The input stage accepts supply lines rated at 400 – 480 VAC, matching common factory distribution networks, and it synchronizes to either 50 or 60 Hz so it can operate on either standard line frequency without transformers. Thermal energy from the power modules is removed through a water-cooled heat exchanger, keeping semiconductor junctions within operating limits while reducing enclosure noise. When the inverter operates at maximum load, the cooling circuit must dissipate up to 420 W. An integrated auxiliary supply delivers a stabilized 24 VDC rail for contactors, sensors, and control electronics, eliminating the need for an external power supply.
The auxiliary rail can supply up to 2 A, which is sufficient for standard I/O and brake relays located near the inverter. The unit operates in climatic category 3K3 and supports an ambient temperature range of +10 to +55 °C. For storage or transportation, it withstands temperatures from -25 to +70 °C without performance loss. Status and timing signals use the DeviceNet timer bus, while the cabinet-mounted design and IP20 housing shield live parts from accidental contact. The inverter weighs approximately 25 kg, and its mass must be considered when selecting mounting hardware and cabinet supports.
