The PPC-R22.1N is a compact control unit manufactured by Bosch Rexroth Indramat for the PPC Controllers series. Mounted as a RECO unit inside control cabinets, it runs on the standard 24 VDC machine supply and acts as the central processor for motion sequences, fieldbus exchange, and local digital I/O supervision in automated production cells. By combining embedded processing, non-volatile program storage, and communication interfaces, the device provides deterministic coordination between drives, sensors, and higher-level supervisory systems without adding a full industrial PC.

At its core, the controller uses a PowerPC 266 MHz processor that executes interpolated motion paths while still leaving time for logic tasks. Working memory consists of 32 MB SDRAM, which buffers real-time data and axis parameters, and the firmware retains user variables inside 128 KB NVRAM so they survive a power cycle. Application code is loaded from the integrated CompactFlash card and can be updated through either of the two serial ports; the default link operates at 9600 bps, while the Sercos interface starts at 2 Mbaud for drive synchronization. Version 1 hardware carries three digital inputs and two digital outputs, and the outputs switch in less than 500 µs. A 4-digit alphanumeric display on the front panel reports status codes during operation.

Power delivery is straightforward: the unit accepts the rated 24 VDC line with up to 1.2 A of current draw, protected by a 4 A slow-blow fuse and tolerant of 4 Vpp ripple or 5% supply variation. Each input is debounced in hardware, achieving a response time of 50 µs for accurate edge detection, while the two transistor outputs source up to 0.5 A per channel for contactors or indicator lamps. An IP20 housing limits access to live parts yet allows convection cooling, and safe operation is permitted up to 45 °C ambient. No additional memory expansion slots are provided.
