The MTS-R02.2-M2-P1-S4-NN-FW control module is manufactured by Bosch Rexroth Indramat and belongs to the MTS Servo Control Modules series. Designed as a rack-mountable controller, the product coordinates servo drives and peripheral I/O in automated assembly lines, material-handling systems, and machining cells. It consolidates command processing, real-time motion calculations, and error handling so the primary PLC can delegate axis-level tasks to this dedicated hardware. Because it communicates through both fieldbus and serial channels, it can bridge legacy devices with modern networks inside the same control cabinet.
Slot 1 is fitted with a PROFIBUS-DP Master card that allows deterministic telegram exchange with up to 32 per segment remote stations. The network speed reaches 12 Mbaud, permitting rapid parameter updates and synchronous positioning data. Slot 2 hosts a multi-protocol board that provides 2 x RS232 and 2 x RS422/485 channels, and this mix supports point-to-point serial links as well as multi-drop encoder chains. Internally, the controller carries 2 MB of battery-buffered RAM where axis parameters, user programs, and fault logs are stored during power cycles. These communication and memory resources allow the module to manage multiple axes while retaining operating data between restarts.
The electronics draw their operating voltage from a 24 VDC cabinet supply, and the module limits steady-state consumption to 0.7 A. Of that load, 250 mA is reserved for the serial interface board while the remaining budget feeds logic circuits and the backplane, resulting in an I/O bus demand of 52 W. The housing carries an IP20 rating, measures 83.7 x 192 x 150 mm, and spans two slots on the MTS rack, leaving airflow paths unobstructed for surrounding drives. With a mass of 1.3 kg, the module remains compact while still accommodating up to 16 RS485 nodes on the secondary network.
