This unit slots into modular drive racks and acts as the central logic and I/O interface that links motion axes with higher-level automation. By executing user PLC code and buffering field data, it coordinates position loops and machine interlocks, allowing surrounding Indramat drives to respond to deterministic commands on the line.

Internally, the controller operates from a nominal 24 VDC backplane supply and permits a startup surge of 20 A without component damage. Once the rack voltage stabilizes, the module’s backplane draws only a 0.5 A steady load, while the dedicated 24 V I/O rail can provide 2.2 A to external sensors and the 5 V rail supplies 3.0 A for encoder or logic circuits. Combined I/O consumption is limited to 52 W, which helps size cabinet power supplies. User sequencing is stored in a fast dual-port RAM bank of 8 kB, and this memory operates beside the main PLC runtime memory of 2 MB so high-priority data can be exchanged with neighboring modules in one bus cycle. The power-fail cutoff occurs at 18 VDC, ensuring volatile data is written to retentive memory before the backplane collapses.

The communication side is configured as a PROFIBUS-DP slave that transfers cyclic data at up to 12 Mbaud. Each scan can exchange 244 bytes in one direction, and the module maps a total process image of 368 bytes so the host controller has a consistent view of digital and analog channels. The housing measures 41.5 × 192 × 150 mm, which supports compact installation in cabinet-protected locations, and the module weighs 1.1 kg with an IP20 enclosure rating. With a single 24 V backplane feed, the card derives its own logic levels, so no separate field wiring is needed beyond the PROFIBUS connector.
