The MTS-P02.2-D2-P1-NN-NN-NN-FW communication module is built by Bosch Rexroth Indramat for the MTS Servo Control Modules series. It mounts on a standard controller backplane and has a footprint of 145 mm in height, 22 mm in width, and 295 mm in depth, so several cards can be installed side by side without crowding a cabinet. The board’s primary role is to translate Profibus messages and TTL signals into the internal motion bus used by servo drives, enabling synchronized axis control, parameter transfer, and real-time diagnostic access during continuous machine operation.
The front panel carries a service connector that offers RS232C at 9600 baud access. This point-to-point link is intended for service software and provides textual status information without loading the fieldbus. All real-time traffic moves over the Profibus DP master interface, backed by 8 kB of dual-port memory that buffers telegrams between the drive control and the bus. Network throughput reaches 12 MBaud, so motion setpoints and feedback can be refreshed within sub-millisecond cycles. The master can address up to 125 stations, and each slave can exchange 244 input and 244 output bytes, allowing large cyclic I/O images or parameter blocks per device.
To sustain this traffic, the isolated Profibus circuit draws 650 mA from the backplane and uses +5 VDC ±5% for bus operation, maintaining signaling levels across long trunk lengths. Segment management supports up to 32 users before a repeater is required, which helps balance cable length and device count on each segment. For local logic, the card provides 16 TTL inputs and 16 TTL outputs, creating a duplex image of 512 bytes each when combined with the Profibus data stream. This arrangement allows sensors and actuators to connect directly without adding separate bus nodes.
