With a cabinet footprint of 22 mm in width, 145 mm in height, and 295 mm in depth, the controller slides into narrow rack slots while still leaving convection gaps for cooling. Internal electronics receive power from an auxiliary rail of ±12 VDC, while the processor and memory use a separate ±5 VDC logic line. Shielded front connectors route user wiring laterally to avoid blocking airflow, and diagnostic LEDs grouped by function provide immediate status feedback during startup or fault tracing.

Communication resources dominate the MTS feature set. The integrated Interbus master exchanges 4096 input bits and 4096 output bits with up to 512 stations, and each ring section may reach 400 m while as many as 256 repeaters can be cascaded to cover a total distance of 12.8 km in large facilities. A second port supports Profibus-DP, where traffic moves at a 12 Mbaud rate with 32 devices per segment and as many as 125 slaves across the complete network. Even under full bus load, the board limits its draw on the five-volt rail to 1.8 A, so the standard Indramat supply remains sufficient. Local real-time handshaking is handled by 16 local TTL inputs together with 16 high-speed outputs, allowing index pulses, limit switches, and drive-ready lines to pass between axes without using fieldbus bandwidth.
