The KDF1.2-100-300-W1-115 is a variable frequency drive produced by Bosch Rexroth Indramat and delivered within the KDF Variable Frequency Drives series. By converting fixed mains power into a controllable DC link and then generating variable-frequency output, the unit governs induction or synchronous motors used in material handling, packaging lines, and general motion platforms. Integrating this drive into an automation cell allows speed and position regulation without mechanical gear changes, which helps the machine respond more quickly to changing operating demands. This type of control also supports smoother acceleration and deceleration than direct-on-line motor operation.

The drive derives its power from a 300 VDC internal bus that is maintained by the front-end rectifier. At full load, the inverter can supply up to 100 A, supporting motors whose continuous demand approaches the thermal capacity of the frame. Maximum output is limited to 25 hp, which is suitable for mid-range conveyors or spindle modules that need strong acceleration within a compact cabinet installation. Motor velocity can be commanded anywhere inside the 0–8000 rpm range, enabling both low-speed operation and high-speed running. Control electronics and the mounted cooling fan share a 115 VAC auxiliary supply, which keeps the control section separate from the main output stage and supports stable operation during command changes.

A mounted fan pulls air through the heat sink, keeping semiconductor junctions stable while the drive operates in 4 quadrants, so it can motor and regenerate in both rotational directions. Short-term overload conditions are tolerated for 10 s before current limiting intervenes, while prolonged thermal stress triggers a shutdown after 3 min to protect the power stage. Two discrete position commands are accepted, each referenced to a secondary axis offset of 180°, and the feedback channel registers each command edge with a 4 ms pulse width. This arrangement allows basic indexing and directional reversals without requiring a separate external motion controller.
