The KDA1.1-100-300-W1-220V is a spindle drive manufactured by Bosch Rexroth Indramat and placed in the KDA Spindle Drives series. It interfaces with a machining center’s main spindle, delivering controlled three-phase power to 2AD or 1MB AC asynchronous motors so cutting, drilling, and milling tasks can run at commanded speed and torque. The drive is intended for machine tools that need stable spindle response during load changes and repeated production cycles. By converting incoming power into controlled motor output close to the tool shaft, the unit supports accurate material removal and repeatable machining performance in automated production lines.

The drive can supply up to 100 A of output current, which is suitable for large-frame spindle motors used in heavy metalworking applications. An internal bus of 300 VDC is managed by a microprocessor that regulates current, speed, and torque loops in real time. Thermal energy from the power stage is removed through forced cooling, which helps maintain stable operation during sustained cutting loads and frequent speed changes. The unit supports four-quadrant operation, so it can accelerate, decelerate, and handle regenerative braking under command. The housing uses panel mounting, so the module can be fastened directly to a cabinet backplate for organized installation.

An auxiliary fan that runs on 220 VAC provides the airflow required for cooling, and the drive is intended to operate in ambient temperatures from 5 to 45 °C. Full performance is maintained up to 1000 m above sea level, beyond which output derating is advised because reduced air density lowers cooling effectiveness. Built-in positioning functions allow the spindle to index precisely for tool changes or threading cycles. This helps applications that require the spindle to stop at a known angular position between machining steps.
