The KDA 3.2-150-3-DPD-U1 is a rack-mount spindle drive developed by Bosch Rexroth Indramat within the KDA Spindle Drives series. Version 3.2 combines a high-current power stage with digital interface options suited to numerically controlled machine tools. In an automation line, the unit converts regulated DC-link energy from an external supply into three-phase stator current so that a high-speed spindle can accelerate, maintain velocity, and brake under closed-loop control. This drive type is used where spindle speed must remain stable during changing machining loads and rapid command updates from the CNC. It is intended for cabinet installation alongside other drive electronics in machine control systems.
At the power level, the drive is energized from a DC bus of 300 VDC and can deliver up to 150 A of continuous output to the spindle motor. Thermal management relies on a heat sink-mounted blower; the internal fan provides forced cooling and is supplied by an auxiliary line of 115 V 50–60 Hz. These elements remove switching losses from the power semiconductors so the controller stays within its protection thresholds during rapid load changes. Digital speed reference data enter through a parallel channel, while a separate position command value interface allows the CNC to apply contouring corrections without analog conversion lag. Because both command paths are digital, the control system can transmit numerical setpoints directly to the drive.
The operating range is 5 to 45 °C, and full current is available up to 1000 m above sea level without derating. A dedicated port accepts a second encoder input, so the same drive can process spindle feedback or additional motor feedback signals for synchronous axes. This added feedback path is useful when the machine must coordinate spindle rotation with another motion source or monitor more than one feedback signal. The primary velocity loop uses a digital 16-bit parallel speed command, which gives the control system a precise numerical reference for spindle speed. That arrangement supports synchronized motion and accurate contour tracking during drilling, grinding, and contour milling.
