This unit conditions and feeds three-phase power to high-speed machine-tool spindles, converting velocity commands from the numerical control into regulated motor voltage. By closing the torque loop internally, it stabilizes spindle speed during cutting, drilling, or grinding operations and supports rapid acceleration and deceleration cycles common in automated machining lines. This control behavior helps the spindle maintain the commanded speed when cutting load changes during material removal.
The power electronics generate substantial heat, so the drive relies on a heat sink-mounted blower that channels air directly across the fins. The blower is powered from a dedicated 220 V/50-60 Hz auxiliary source, enabling continuous airflow whenever cabinet power is present. This arrangement is part of the drive’s forced cooling mode, which helps prevent thermal derating under constant load. The inverter can supply a steady 100 A of motor current, covering the demands of medium-to-large spindles during heavy cuts. Speed reference data are accepted as an analog voltage signal, allowing straightforward integration with legacy CNC controllers.
