The KDA 3.2-100-3-LPI-W1 is a spindle drive module produced by Bosch Rexroth Indramat for the KDA Spindle Drives series. This Series 3, Version 2 unit converts the shared DC-link voltage into a controlled three-phase output for closed-loop spindle operation. It is intended for machine-tool applications that require stable speed regulation, responsive torque control, and repeatable motion during cutting cycles. By supporting rapid acceleration and deceleration, the drive helps maintain consistent machining performance in milling, turning, and grinding equipment. Its control behavior is suited to spindle axes that must hold commanded speed as cutting load changes throughout a machining sequence.
The internal power electronics draw from a 300 VDC intermediate circuit and can supply up to 100 A of continuous output current to the connected spindle motor. Thermal energy is removed by a mounted heat sink blower powered by a separate 220 V at 50/60 Hz source, which provides forced cooling for the power section. This airflow helps keep semiconductor temperatures within their intended operating range during sustained high-speed operation. The separate blower supply supports cooling independently of the motor output path. The unit accepts a speed command through the series fiber-optic link, and a secondary encoder connection can be used for spindle-mounted or auxiliary motor feedback.
Reliable operation is permitted at ambient temperatures from 5 to 45 °C and at installation sites up to 1000 m above sea level. The digital command channel uses the SERCOS interface, which supports synchronous setpoint transmission to the current regulator. For diagnostic functions or master-slave tracking, the board includes an additional incremental encoder output that mirrors the internal position counter. The mirrored encoder signal can be used by external monitoring circuits or synchronization functions that depend on position-related pulses.
