The KDA 3.2-100-3-LPD-U1 is a spindle drive produced by Bosch Rexroth Indramat within the KDA Spindle Drives series. As a current-controlled power module, it regulates three-phase motors mounted on machine-tool spindles, converting the fixed DC bus of an Indramat supply unit into a variable voltage and frequency output. In automated machining centers, the drive coordinates spindle speed profiles, acceleration ramps, and positioning tasks, forming the link between the motion controller and the electromechanical actuator.
It operates from a DC link of 300 VDC, giving the power section the headroom required for rapid torque response over the full speed range. The continuous output limit is 100 A, so the drive can energize high-power spindles without thermal derating during sustained cutting passes. A dedicated blower for the heat sink is supplied from 115 V/50–60 Hz, separating cooling power from the main DC bus and maintaining airflow even when the DC link is discharged. Because the thermal path relies on a mounted heat sink blower, the unit uses forced cooling, which removes heat faster than natural convection. Motion commands enter through the real-time SERCOS interface, allowing deterministic speed setpoints and status feedback to the CNC controller.
For positioning operations, a digital position command value channel is provided in parallel with the velocity interface, and a second encoder input can accept spindle feedback or additional motor feedback when master/slave axes are synchronized.
