The KDA 3.2-100-3-DPI-W1 is a drive module manufactured by Bosch Rexroth Indramat for the KDA Spindle Drives series. It converts the constant DC bus voltage from an Indramat power supply into variable three-phase output that a machine-tool spindle requires for controlled acceleration, braking, and constant-speed cutting. Within a machine tool, the module links numeric control commands to spindle power and returns real-time position data so the control loop can maintain accurate speed and position during demanding cutting cycles.
In Series 3, Version 2, the drive draws its DC link from 300 VDC and provides a continuous output of 100 A. Heat is removed by a mounted heat sink blower powered from 220 V / 50–60 Hz, and the resulting forced cooling helps keep the IGBTs within their rated junction temperature during rapid speed changes and repeated load transients. The control section accepts the commanded speed value directly, which avoids analog drift in the reference path. A dedicated second encoder socket lets the control board process spindle feedback or an auxiliary motor sensor when synchronized-axis operation is required on more complex machine layouts.
The module operates only when ambient air remains in the range of 5 to 45 °C and the installation height does not exceed 1000 m above sea level. The velocity reference is carried on a connector with a digital 16-bit parallel signal, which passes the commanded value to the inverter without a serial conversion stage or analog scaling errors. For diagnostics, the unit retransmits position counts through an incremental encoder output, allowing external monitoring equipment to capture spindle phase without disturbing the control loop. Cabinet airflow and mounting location must stay within these limits so the blower can remove heat as intended during continuous spindle operation.
