The KDA 3.2-050-3-DPI-U1 spindle drive is manufactured by Bosch Rexroth Indramat for spindle control applications in machining centers. It regulates induction or synchronous spindle motors so commanded speed and position values from the CNC can be converted into controlled spindle motion during cutting cycles. The unit provides power conversion together with real-time position feedback to the numerical controller for closed-loop operation. It is Series 3 and Version 2, and it mounts in a single Diax04 rack slot so it can share the common DC bus with adjacent axes in a compact multi-axis cabinet.
The drive draws its main energy from a 300 VDC supply rail and can deliver up to 50 A of continuous output current to the spindle windings. An auxiliary blower requires 115 V AC, 50-60 Hz, which keeps the cooling system supplied independently from the DC power stage during high-duty operation. Thermal extraction is handled by a mounted heatsink blower that works with the drive’s internal ducts and supports forced cooling, so cabinet air does not have to remove the full heat load by itself. The front panel also includes a second encoder socket for spindle or auxiliary motor feedback, expanding the controller’s ability to monitor position and commutation without an external breakout module.
The drive is approved for operation from 5 to 45 °C and for installation up to 1000 m above sea level without derating. Speed references enter through a digital 16-bit parallel port, which allows compatibility with both legacy and newer CNC systems that use this style of command interface. Tachometer or resolver signals can be retransmitted through the built-in incremental encoder output, allowing related control hardware to receive rotation data from the drive.
