The KDA 3.2-050-3-AYS-U1 spindle drive is produced by Bosch Rexroth Indramat and belongs to the KDA Spindle Drives series. Installed in machining centers, it bridges the regulated DC link and the spindle motor, generating a three-phase output whose frequency follows the velocity reference from the numerical control. The drive therefore governs acceleration, constant-speed cutting, and rapid deceleration of tool spindles, giving motion commands the electrical power they need for stable, repeatable metal-removal cycles.

The power section operates from a DC bus of 300 VDC, so the upstream supply can be sized for a constant intermediate-circuit voltage instead of varying line conditions. A continuous output capability of 50 A allows the unit to start large-inertia spindles and hold rated torque without derating. Internal thermal loads are extracted by a mounted heat sink blower. The unit uses forced cooling, which keeps semiconductor temperatures within safe limits during heavy duty. The blower itself is energized by an auxiliary source of 115 V/50-60 Hz, isolating its operation from the DC link so cooling airflow is maintained even when the main power section is disabled. A second-channel encoder port on the control board lets the drive process rotor feedback from a tandem sensor, improving speed estimation during spindle orientation. The version code 3.2 identifies the product revision used with later KDA accessories.

The allowable ambient range is 5 to 45 °C, so cabinet climate control is unnecessary in most production halls, and performance remains unchanged up to 1000 m installation altitude. Process data can be exchanged through a serial interface (RS 232 C), giving service terminals direct access to parameters without opening the enclosure. For motion commands, the controller reads an analog speed reference, simplifying integration with PLCs that output standardized ±10 V velocity signals.
