The KDA 3.1-150-3-AYD-W1 is a drive module manufactured by Bosch Rexroth Indramat for the KDA Spindle Drives series. Intended for CNC and machining centers, the unit converts a fixed DC bus into regulated three-phase output. This output lets a spindle motor follow commanded speed and torque profiles during cutting, drilling, or grinding operations. This arrangement supports precise spindle control when machining loads change quickly during operation and when the CNC demands repeatable speed regulation.
The drive is energized from a DC link of 300 VDC, and its power stage can supply up to 150 A of continuous current, letting large-inertia spindles accelerate quickly without causing thermal trips. An integral heat sink blower operates from a separate 220 V/50–60 Hz source; coupled with the unit’s forced cooling layout, this airflow removes switching losses and keeps semiconductor junctions within safe limits. The blower is mounted directly on the extruded heat sink, eliminating external ducting while guiding air along the fins for uniform temperature distribution. Reliable service is maintained when the surrounding air remains between 5 to 45 °C, so normal cabinet HVAC is sufficient for most shop-floor environments.
Installation altitude may reach 1000 m above sea level without derating, preserving all electrical and thermal margins in typical factories. For motion coordination, the front terminals expose a digital position command input that accepts step or word formats, while velocity loops can be driven through an analog speed command input that allows ±10 V references from PLC or CNC controllers.
