Installed inside a machine-tool cabinet, the unit energizes three-phase spindle motors from a regulated DC link while accepting digital speed commands from higher-level motion controllers. By integrating power electronics, cooling hardware, and communication functions in one chassis, it forms the core of closed-loop spindle control stages used in milling, turning, and grinding equipment. This arrangement lets the spindle respond quickly to command changes and maintain stable torque during cutting cycles.
The converter operates from a nominal 300 VDC bus and can supply up to 100 A of continuous phase current, allowing high-torque acceleration without external boost modules. A dedicated blower is powered by a separate 220 V AC 50–60 Hz feed so thermal management remains active even when the main bus is discharged. The separate blower supply keeps airflow available during shutdown and restart conditions. Heat is removed through forced cooling, permitting full current at rated cabinet temperatures. The permissible ambient range is 5 to 45 °C, and no derating is required until the installation exceeds 1000 m above sea level. For local setup and diagnostics, a computer connects through a serial interface (RS 232 C) that provides access to parameter lists and error histories.
