Product Description:

The KDA 3.1-100-3-APD-W1 is a spindle drive produced by Bosch Rexroth Indramat for the KDA Spindle Drives series. It conditions and delivers three-phase power to high-speed machine-tool spindles, forming the link between a CNC controller and the motor. By supervising torque and velocity in real time, the drive helps maintain repeatable surface finish and cycle time during drilling, milling, and grinding operations. Integrated sensor feedback and closed-loop control inside the housing let the unit accelerate and decelerate the spindle quickly, and the control loop helps the spindle respond smoothly as cutting load rises or falls. That behavior supports consistent spindle response across repeated start-stop sequences.

A 300 VDC DC bus feeds the inverter and supports a continuous output of 100 A, so large-frame spindles can be energized without current foldback. Heat is removed by forced cooling through a finned assembly driven by a mounted heat-sink blower. The blower draws power from an independent 220 V/50-60 Hz AC source, so airflow remains available even when the power stage is disabled. Separate blower power also keeps cooling independent of spindle command status, which helps maintain stable thermal conditions during pauses. An internal regulator converts external ±10 V references from the motion controller into phase currents, giving precise torque response during tool engagement and other rapid load changes.

The command interface separates an analog speed channel from a dedicated digital position command input, enabling rapid shifts between velocity and position modes without rewiring. The separate command paths let the drive handle both speed-regulated operation and position-related spindle functions within the same system layout. A second encoder socket accepts signals for spindle feedback or additional motor feedback, which supports orientation and rigid-tapping routines in machine-tool applications. The allowable ambient range is 5 to 45 degrees Celsius, and installation is permitted up to 1000 m above sea level before derating is required.
