Product Description:
The KDA 3.1-100-3-A0S-W1 is a spindle drive module produced by Bosch Rexroth Indramat for the KDA Spindle Drives series. It operates on the DC bus of an Indramat drive cabinet and supplies regulated three-phase output current to high-speed machining spindles, allowing the CNC to control rotational speed and torque through analog command signals. By combining current regulation, regenerative braking, and dedicated cooling, the module supports steady spindle operation in metal-cutting and woodworking machines where speed stability and repeatable response are important during changing load conditions.
The drive draws its logic and power-stage energy from a stabilized DC link of 300 VDC, and its power section is rated for a continuous output of 100 A to the spindle motor. Thermal energy is removed by a mounted heat sink blower, while the fan itself is supplied from a separate auxiliary line of 220 V at 50/60 Hz rather than from the DC bus. Velocity reference data reaches the control electronics as an analog speed command, allowing proportional spindle regulation from the machine control. The module does not include an auxiliary encoder channel, so the CNC relies on the primary spindle encoder for feedback and speed supervision during operation.
Operation relies on forced cooling, so cabinet airflow must be maintained throughout the specified ambient range of 5 to 45 °C. Electronic components are derated at higher elevations, and full performance is available up to 1000 m above sea level. For diagnostics and parameter backup, a serial interface (RS-232-C) is provided on the front panel, allowing data exchange with a computer or PLC service connection without interrupting normal spindle functions. Release 3 uses the KDA bus-bar arrangement for the same DC-link class, which supports installation in compatible cabinets that share the matching power architecture.
