KDA 3.1-050-3-LQI-W1 is a KDA series spindle drive. Its modular design allows matching of the configuration to application requirements. Operators can select the rated output current, speed command value, and a range of options for the auxiliary encoder interfaces. This is a computer controlled drive unit. It requires parameterization for matching to the motor and the machine tool. A programming module on the unit is used to store parameters and the drive’s operating software. The benefit of this design is that, in case of drive failure or malfunction, the programming module can simply be moved to a replacement drive. No further configuration of the replacement drive is necessary. The data and programs stored on a programming module can also be duplicated for similar machines, which helps to speed up the commissioning process.
A KDA drive, blower unit, and a mechanical mounting kit are necessary for installing a spindle drive in a control enclosure. KDA drives are designed for vertical installation. Unused KDA drives must be stored in a dust- and shock-free environment where the temperature is kept between -30 and 85 degrees Celsius. Use of a shock-absorbing base is recommended during transport for vibration protection. Rated output of the KDA 3.1-050-3-LQI-W1 drive is 50 Amps. The continuous output is slightly lower at 35 Amps. Speed command interface on this drive is a SERCOS interface, which supports high-speed communication. One of the auxiliary encoder interfaces supports output for an incremental encoder. The other auxiliary encoder interface can receive sinusoidal input from an encoder. The blower installed on the heat sink of this drive requires 220 Volts AC external power. Protection category of the drive unit is IP10.
