Product Description:
The KDA 3.1-050-3-LPS-U1 spindle drive is produced by Bosch Rexroth Indramat and belongs to the KDA Spindle Drives series. As a regulated power module, it governs the torque and rotational speed of machine-tool spindles or other high-speed axes in automated production cells. The unit accepts command values from digital motion controllers, converts DC-bus energy into three-phase output for the motor, and synchronizes spindle motion with the rest of the drive system. This makes it suitable for applications that require coordinated motion between the spindle and feed axes during machining cycles. It combines current control, protection circuits, and feedback handling in a single enclosure.
The power stage operates from a DC link rated at 300 VDC, and its output channel can supply up to 50 A of continuous current to the spindle motor. Thermal management relies on a mounted heat sink blower, which draws air across the aluminum fins and expels it from the cabinet. That fan is energized from an auxiliary source of 115 V/50-60 Hz, so the cooling circuit can remain active even when the main drive is disabled. Because the drive uses forced cooling, an unobstructed air path is required. Blower-assisted cooling helps the drive support sustained spindle demand during continuous operation. Reliable operation is permitted between 5 °C and 45 °C.
A front-panel port exposes a serial interface (RS-232C) for parameter loading, diagnostics, or remote access. Real-time velocity references are accepted through the SERCOS interface, enabling deterministic coordination with multi-axis controllers. For enhanced position accuracy, the drive provides a second encoder input that can process spindle feedback or additional motor feedback without external modules. This supports functions such as synchronized positioning, orienting, and speed supervision in multi-axis systems. Installation altitude is limited to 1000 m above sea level, which helps maintain cooling performance and electrical clearances.
