The KDA 3.1-050-3-DPI-W1 is a spindle drive manufactured by Bosch Rexroth Indramat and assigned to the KDA Spindle Drives series. It is intended to power and control high-speed machine-tool spindles, supplying the current, voltage, and feedback processing needed for accurate cutting speeds and stable surface quality in industrial automation equipment. The unit uses the series 3 hardware platform and is mounted vertically inside sealed electrical enclosures. It is commonly used where spindle speed must remain stable during rapid load changes in production machines and machining centers. Bus bars or line reactors are provided separately as part of the machine power system.
Internally, the drive draws its logic and power-stage supply from a stabilized DC link rated at 300 VDC. Under continuous operation, it can deliver up to 50 A to the motor phases, so cabinet conductors and protective devices must be selected for that load. Heat from the power electronics is removed by forced cooling, and the mounted blower is supplied from an auxiliary line rated at 220 V, 50–60 Hz. This cooling arrangement is intended for ambient air temperatures from 5 to 45 °C, which covers normal indoor industrial conditions without requiring a separate liquid-cooling circuit.
The controller exchanges velocity commands through a digital 16-bit parallel interface, providing fine speed resolution for tapping, drilling, and grinding cycles. Position verification for higher-level CNC or PLC hardware is available through the built-in incremental encoder output. A configurable second encoder input supports direct spindle feedback or feedback from a separate axis motor, depending on the machine layout. Operation is permitted up to 1000 m above sea level; above that altitude, additional derating is required. Separate command and feedback channels allow the drive to fit systems that need coordinated spindle control with repeatable speed regulation.
