The KDA 2.1-150-3-DPD-U1 spindle drive is manufactured by Bosch Rexroth Indramat as part of the KDA Spindle Drives series. It acts as a closed-loop power stage for high-speed machining spindles, translating NC commands into torque and speed regulation. By providing integrated power electronics, field connections, and onboard cooling, the unit simplifies installation in machining centers and similar automation platforms. Within an Indramat motion system, it receives setpoints from a CNC controller and supplies regulated three-phase output to spindle motors designed for demanding duty cycles.
It draws its DC link energy from a regulated bus at 300 VDC, and the current path is dimensioned for a continuous output of 150 A, allowing acceleration of large-inertia tool spindles without current limiting. Thermal stability is maintained by a heat sink assembly that uses a blower powered from an auxiliary source rated at 115 V/50–60 Hz; this dedicated circuit separates the cooling load from the DC bus. Speed reference data arrive over a parallel interface with a 16-bit word length, enabling fine resolution in velocity control. Because dissipated heat is removed through forced cooling, cabinet temperatures remain stable during milling. For coordinated motion, it accepts a dedicated position command value line in addition to the speed channel, letting CNC software switch between velocity and positional modes. A second encoder socket is provided when simultaneous spindle feedback or auxiliary motor monitoring is required, integrating that channel without extra interface cards.
