The KDA 2.1-150-3-AY0-U1 is a spindle drive manufactured by Bosch Rexroth Indramat for the KDA Spindle Drives series. In a CNC or transfer line, the module supplies three-phase power to the spindle motor and modulates torque so that metal-cutting, grinding, or drilling operations maintain their programmed speed profile. Working from a common DC bus, the drive links the motion controller to the electromechanical spindle, executes velocity commands, and relays actual speed data back to the control loop. It is intended for spindle applications that require stable speed regulation during changing process loads.

The power stage is energized from a bus voltage of 300 VDC, and its output can deliver up to 150 A of continuous current to the motor windings. Thermal stability is maintained through forced cooling that relies on a mounted heat sink blower. This blower uses a separate single-phase supply rated at 115 V/50–60 Hz, which allows the cooling airflow to remain independent of the main power stage. Because the speed reference enters the drive as an analog signal, it can interface with legacy or mixed-signal controllers. No additional interface option is fitted, which simplifies wiring and saves enclosure space.

Operating conditions are limited to an ambient range of 5 to 45 °C, so the unit must be installed where cooling air stays within that temperature window. Installation altitude must not exceed 1000 m above sea level, because lower air density reduces blower effectiveness. For high-resolution feedback or master-slave synchronization, the front panel carries a second encoder input and a synchronous input. This arrangement allows the control system to process both motor-mounted and machine-mounted encoder signals. The added feedback path supports applications that need synchronized spindle behavior or more precise speed monitoring.
