The KDA 2.1-150-3-AP0-U1 spindle drive is produced by Bosch Rexroth Indramat for the KDA Spindle Drives series. As a regulated inverter designed for high-speed machining spindles, it converts the intermediate DC bus energy of a multi-axis system into three-phase power while monitoring current, velocity, and thermal status. In an automation line, the unit links the CNC controller to the spindle motor, allowing the controller to issue precise velocity references that the drive tracks with closed-loop accuracy.
Internally, the power stage operates from a DC bus of 300 VDC, so each axis supply or regenerative module must furnish that voltage for proper operation. The power devices are sized for a continuous output of 150 A, allowing the drive to energize large-frame spindle motors without saturation. Velocity reference data enter the drive as an analog command value, which simplifies connection to legacy CNC controls that output a ±10 V speed setpoint. To remove switching losses, the housing is equipped with a heat sink blower fed by an external AC source of 115 V/50–60 Hz.
