The unit converts direct-current bus energy into three-phase power for induction or synchronous spindles, letting machine tools position and cut with controllable speed and torque. It is intended for axis packages where accurate velocity following is coordinated by digital CNC systems, and it acts as the drive-side complement to SERCOS-based motion controllers in automated machining centers.
Its power stage ties into a DC bus rated at 300 VDC, and the inverter can continuously supply up to 100 A of phase current to the spindle windings. Internal auxiliaries for the heat sink blower are fed from an independent 220 V/50–60 Hz AC tap, so thermal management stays active even when the DC link is disabled. The cooling hardware is arranged as a mounted heat sink blower, and the drive’s aluminum baseplate forces airflow directly across the power semiconductor stack. Speed reference data enter the drive over the SERCOS interface, while a separate digital channel carries position-command information, allowing the controller to regulate both velocity and angular orientation without analog signals.
Heat removal follows the principle of forced cooling, so the blower must remain unobstructed for rated operation. The drive is specified for ambient temperatures from 5 to 45 °C and may be installed at elevations up to 1000 m above sea level without output derating. A second encoder input is available for spindle feedback, or it can be reassigned to additional motor feedback in multi-motor applications, improving phase alignment during rigid tapping. The supplemental interface carrying a digital position command value complements the series 2 control hardware and gives deterministic moves at high spindle speeds.
