The KDA 2.1-100-3-LP0-W1 is a drive module produced by Bosch Rexroth Indramat for the KDA Spindle Drives series. Designed for high-speed machine-tool spindles, the unit converts DC-bus energy into controlled three-phase output so CNC controllers can regulate rotational speed and torque precisely. By combining power electronics and feedback handling in one enclosure, the drive simplifies spindle installation on machining centers and similar automated equipment. It is suited to spindle duties where cutting load changes require fast electrical response. This makes it appropriate for precision machining tasks that depend on consistent spindle behavior across a wide speed range.
Its power section is sized for a continuous motor phase current of 100 A, enabling direct connection to large-frame spindles without external amplifiers. The intermediate DC bus must supply 300 VDC, and the drive monitors this level to maintain stable modulation during operation. Thermal energy from the power semiconductors is removed by a mounted heat sink blower that uses forced cooling, so airflow does not depend on cabinet convection. The blower requires an auxiliary supply of 220 V/50–60 Hz from the cabinet, which separates cooling power from the main drive section. Fiber-optic communication ports and the standard terminal strip keep the electrical layout straightforward.
The drive operates within an ambient range of 5 to 45 °C, allowing installation in typical shop enclosures without extra chillers. Operation is permitted up to 1000 m altitude, after which derating is required to protect semiconductor temperature margins. Speed commands are delivered over the SERCOS interface, which provides deterministic timing between the CNC kernel and the power stage. A dedicated connector provides a second encoder input for spindle feedback or auxiliary motor position signals while closed-loop control is maintained. The unit is Series 2.
