Bosch Rexroth Indramat manufactures the KDA 2.1-100-3-APS-W1, a spindle drive positioned within the KDA Spindle Drives series. Designed for closed-loop control of high-speed machine-tool spindles, the unit converts a constant DC link into a variable three-phase output that tracks speed commands from the CNC. It serves as the power stage in an automation chain, pairing with feedback devices and motion controllers to provide accurate rotational positioning and rapid acceleration of the connected spindle motor during demanding machining operations.
The power electronics operate from a DC bus of 300 VDC and can deliver a continuous output of 100 A to the motor windings. Heat generated by the switching devices is extracted through a mounted heat sink blower, and its fan receives an AC source of 220 V/50–60 Hz. This forced-cooling arrangement helps maintain rated current during sustained roughing cycles and repeated load changes. The speed loop accepts an analog command value, allowing proportional reference signals from the machine control to be converted directly into spindle velocity without added digital conversion delay. A separate terminal supports a second encoder input so spindle orientation or auxiliary motor feedback can also be processed by the drive.
