By shaping current and voltage in real time, the drive allows numerical control systems to vary spindle speed, hold commanded torque, and execute orientation moves required for tool changes or tapping cycles. Its hardware layout supports auxiliary encoder feedback so the controller can maintain tight speed precision during rapid load fluctuations.
The drive accepts a DC link of 300 VDC, so it must be paired with an Indramat supply module delivering that nominal voltage level. Internal IGBT bridges can conduct up to 100 A of continuous armature current, giving the spindle high acceleration torque without saturating the power stage. Thermal losses are discharged through a mounted heat sink blower; the fan receives its own 220 V / 50–60 Hz source and expels air directly across the fins.
